Although hyperglycemia is a well-known complication of L-asparaginase administration in adult patients, there are very few reports about this side effect in the pediatric age group. We observed asparaginase induced non-ketotic hyperglycemia with normal insulin levels in two patients who were diagnosed as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This combination of the metabolic effects of L-asparaginase may be explained by either a relation to a reduced peripheral action of insulin or an impaired peripheral glucose metabolism during the leukemic process.
