Correlation of flow cytometric parameters with gallium-67 scintigraphic images in lymphoma patients

The purpose of this study was to correlate the findings between flow cytometric parameters and Gallium-67 scintigraphic imaging results in Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients. DNA content and cell cycle analysis were performed and cytometric parameters were obtained in 24 patients aged between 16-62. Planar and SPECT images were obtained using Gallium-67. The results were correlated with CT and/or MRI. When scintigraphic studies and flow cytometry results were analyzed together, there was a significant relation between S phase fraction and Gallium-67 imaging findings (p:0.005, r:0.054, Spearman test). While an inverse relation was present between Gallium-67 studies and G1 phase values (p:0.005; r:0.054, Spearman test), no relation was found for G2+M phase (p:0.053; r:0.39, Spearman test). Since both flow cytometry and Gallium-67 tumour scintigraphy reflect the biological activity of the tumour tissue in lymphoma patients, the results of this study suggest both methods may have a significant role in further follow-up and treatment.
